A great retirement plan is about a lot more than money. It is about where you want to live, how you want to spend your time, and the people you want to spend it with. Everything else in the plan should serve those answers.
As Co-Founder and Financial Advisor at Finivi, I have spent more than 35 years helping pre- and post-retirees plan for and live the retirement lifestyle they want. My focus is on retirement income planning, Social Security claiming strategy, and the investment management that ties it all together.
As Director of our Financial Education and Corporate Financial Wellness Programs, I also lead the workshops and webinars Finivi delivers to corporations, universities, hospitals, and community organizations across the country. The work has sharpened my belief that financial confidence begins with financial understanding, whether the audience is a single client or a room of two hundred.
My Story
I grew up in Townsend, Massachusetts with two younger brothers and an older sister, in a family that believed a strong work ethic and clear thinking would create opportunities. At 11, I started my first business delivering the afternoon newspaper around the center of town. By 14, I was working at the local Blue Seal feed store, helping customers load their trucks with hay, shavings, and grain, mostly for their horses. That job carried me through both high school and college and taught me that showing up, doing the work, and treating people with respect never goes out of style.
I also grew up believing that the best way to understand something is to be able to explain it. That instinct followed me to Fitchburg State University, where I studied Economics and graduated summa cum laude, and into the career that started shortly after graduation. I joined a large national financial services firm in 1989 as a Financial Advisor, and I quickly learned that the clients I connected with most were the ones I could teach. Not talk down to. Not talk over. Teach.
Somewhere in those early years, retirement planning became the work that captured me—not just the math of it, but the human side. What does a client actually want their days to look like when the paycheck stops? Where will they live? Who will they see? What will they do when Monday no longer has a meeting on it? When you answer those questions honestly, the financial plan almost writes itself.
Professional Background
I co-founded Finivi in 2001 and have served on the firm’s executive and investment committees since its founding. My focus has remained equally on the strategic direction of the firm and on the client relationships that define it.
As a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), I bring specialized depth to comprehensive retirement planning: Social Security claiming strategy, retirement income design, Medicare and healthcare considerations, and the investment management required to sustain a lifestyle over a retirement that can now last three decades or more. Social Security often represents 40% or more of a retiree’s income, and understanding the claiming options, the tax treatment, and the common traps that cost retirees thousands of dollars is a core part of the work I do.
I am also active in the profession. I have served as Past President of the Worcester, MA Chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals (SFSP) and am an active member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). Staying connected to other advisors and continuing to learn from them is how I keep the work sharp.
Personal Pursuits
My wife Robin and I have raised three children and live in the Merrimack Valley area of Massachusetts. Outside the office, I spend as much time as I can with my family and continue to enjoy the New England seasons that first made this the place we chose to put down roots.
